Pope & Sons Refrigeration Ltd. has a full-time and permanent vacancy for 1 x Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic.
Pope & Sons Refrigeration provides mechanical services specializing in refrigeration, HVAC, and commercial building systems, including service, installation, and maintenance of refrigeration and cooling equipment (see www.popeandsons.com). The company is located at 1009 Allsbrook rd, Parksville, BC. Work will be performed throughout the province of British Columbia.
Duties
• Read, interpret, and construct systems based on blueprints.
• Install refrigeration systems including compressors, evaporators, condensers, piping, and control systems.
• Construct and retrofit refrigeration systems.
• Measure, cut, and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.
• Handle refrigerants, recharge systems, check/test regulators, and calibrate systems.
• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and replacement of parts and refrigeration system components.
• Diagnose malfunctions using gauges, meters, and computerized diagnostic tools.
• Follow all safety protocols, environmental laws, and standards when working with refrigerants and high-pressure systems.
• Upgrade and maintain control systems for improved energy efficiency.
• Interact with customers and complete required paperwork while demonstrating strong communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Education
• Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade Certificate from any jurisdiction OR Journeyman Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic OR eligibility to challenge the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning exam in British Columbia.
Experience
• Several years’ experience with refrigeration systems including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Several years’ experience with refrigeration systems in an industrial environment.

Wages
• Salary: $53.08 – $58.19 per hour (based on experience), paid biweekly
• Monday to Friday schedule, with weekend work as needed and participation in an on-call rotation.
• 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.
• Approximately 20 hours overtime per week may be required, paid as per labour standards.
• Overtime pays at 1.5 times regular hourly rate after 8 hours/day or 44 hours/week.
• Statutory holiday pay.
• 2 weeks’ vacation accrued at 4% of earnings, increasing to 3 weeks (6%) after 5 years of service.
